6-Axis Logging Accelerometer

The AX6 is a data logger capable of recording raw data from a suite of integrated sensors. It features a state of the art 6-Axis movement sensor measuring linear acceleration and angular velocity at high precision. All sensor locations and orientations are identical to the AX3 for maximum compatibility. All data is stored in its raw unaltered format on the embedded flash memory. The device is ideal for collecting longitudinal movement data.

Technology

Microprocessor

It is the Microprocessor's job is to talk to the host computer over USB, negotiate battery charging and to precisely keep the time. In simple terms, the microprocessor is the brain of the sensor.

NAND Memory

This memory chip is used to store all the data the microprocessor pulls from the sensors. Each sample is stored along with a precise time- stamp; this allows for accurate signal reconstruction. The data stored on the NAND Memory is in raw forma has error checking and correction (ECC) built in.

Movement Sensor

This tiny component contains two closely coupled MEMs sensors, and accelerometer and a gyroscope. The accelerometer is used to detect linear acceleration (movement) and orientation changes. The gyroscope measures angular velocity (rotation). Both sensors have three high precision measurement axis. The sensors can be sampled at configurable rates and precision.

Light and Temperature

The AX6 has additional light and temperature sensors, their output is inserted in to the recorded data stream. The light sensor can be used to help determine periods of wear as well as provide useful environmental data. It is tuned to wavelengths visible to the human eye. The temperature sensor measures the internal device temperature which gives an indication of the sensors external environment.

RGB LED

The LED emits light in a wide variety of colours. It is controlled via the microprocessor and used to tell what state the sensor is in; charging, standby, recording or communicating to a host computer. The LED also has a “silent” logging mode where the LED is off during recording operation.
